On this site you will find, apart form information about the surname Gouweloos, also information about the following surnames:

Many of the name variants mentioned above were interchangible in the past. On the next pages you will find all persons mentioned under the mostly used and later handled surnames as Gouweloos and Goulooze.

The persons (in The Netherlands) with the surname Gouweloos are as far as we know now all related to each other. This relationship is not demonstrably for the other variants. 

The first know person with the surname Gouweloos is Jan Gouweloos mentioned in the town of 's-Gravendeel in 1777. In the last will of Jan Gouweloos and his wife Pietertje Barendrecht in April 1779 a person called Dammis Gouweloos, inhabitant of Strijen, is appointed as guardian of the underaged children, in case of the prior death of this Jan. Jan Gouweloos is the ancestor of the surname Gouweloos.

In the search for the ancestors of Jan Gouweloos we came across a Suzanna Gouweloos. This Suzanna was the only Gouweloos who could not be placed as a descendant of Jan Gouweloos. The research to the origin of this Suzanna provided us with a multicolored collection of all sorts of variants of the Gouweloos' surname. By finding the eldest ancestors of the Suzanna we also mean to have found the connection to the origin of Jan Gouweloos and the named Dammis Gouweloos. Looking through the 'Zeeland Archives' we found the data mentioned below. This data is presented from young to old:

Michiel Gaules / Gau(we)loos)

As until now no other, older ancestors, with the surname Gau(we)loos have been found, this Michiel (from Zeeland) is the new ancestor of the entire family tree. 

From Gaules to Gouweloos and Goulooze
The first know person with the real surname Gouweloos, Jan Gouweloos and the within the last will appointed guardian Dammis Gouweloos can then be the above mentioned brothers, sons of Michiel Gaules.
Of both Jan and Dammis there are namely, in contrast with the remaining brothers Arij and Pieter, no other records found in Zeeland. They would then have surfaced in the area of the Hoeksche Waard (South-Holland).

The only child of Jan Gouweloos and Pietertje Barendrecht is a son called Machiel (aldo: Michiel, Magchiel). When looking at the naming rules, no naming after the (grand)parents took place of the family of Pietertje Barendrecht, as the parents of Pietertje are Arij Jacobs Barendrecht and Geertje Ariëns Barendrecht.

Dammis remained childless, he is aldo known under Dammis Gaauweloos and with the first names Damas and Dammes.

(Het descendants of) the remaining brothers (children of Michiel Gaules and Pieternella Damis de Wit) Arij and Pieter are later mentioned under various surnames. The branch of Arij ends childless. The descendants of Pieter are known under the surname Goulooze.


Gouweloos
The ancestor of the actual surname Gouweloos, Jan Gouweloos has only 1 son named Machiel Gouweloos.
Machiel Gouweloos & Jannigje de Keizer had 13 children of which there are 7, namely 
Dirk, Jan, Adrianis, Aart, Dammis, Daniel, Cornelis, got descendants. 
To clarify which part of the tree we are talking about, we speak further of  the "Daniel-branch" or the "Adrianis-branch".

In all cases, detailed information of living persons are not mentioned.


This family tree of the family Gouweloos has been put together by A.J. Gouweloos and I. van Sprang-Gouweloos. We started in August 2005 with our research and at present time there are more than 3300 persons, of 11 generations added to the family tree.


For extanding the photograph page of the family Gouweloos we are looking for various old photographs on which various family members are represented.
